BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women’s basketball will be at home for the next three games, beginning Thursday, Jan. 7 against Saint Augustine’s University in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action with a 5:30 p.m. tilt inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Series
The Bulldogs are 11-5 against the Lady Falcons since 2009. Bowie State owns a seven-game win streak over SAU dating back to 2015-16. The last meeting occurred on Jan. 23, 2022 in Raleigh, N.C., with the Bulldogs winning 49-48.
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs (6-6, 2-1 CIAA) hosted Chowan in its non-conference finale on Dec. 31. The Bulldogs scored 33 points off of turnovers but fell 87-75 to the visiting Hawks. The loss dipped the Bulldogs to 6-6 on the year and 3-2 at home this season. Sophomore Anii Harris (Ellicott City, MD) led the scoring effort with 22 points and four steals while redshirt sophomore Katerra Myers (Burtonsville, MD) and junior Robyn Howard (Temple Hills, MD) chipped in 12 and 11 points. Myers recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
The Bulldog Leaders
Harris has scored in double figure nine out of the 12 games played this season for Bowie State. She leads the offensive attack for BSU, averaging 15.1 points which ranks eighth in the CIAA. Harris’ counterpart is junior Jayla Irvin (Alexandria, VA) at 10.6 points which is 17th right now in the league. On the glass, Jackson leads the Bulldogs grabbing a conference ninth-best 6.1 rebounds while Myers is right behind at 5.8 boards per outing.
Bowie State averages 63.4 points and have allowed its opponents to post 59.4 points which rank ninth and fifth in the league.
Last Time against SAU
After leading by 11 points during the fourth quarter, the Bowie State women’s basketball team was able to hold off the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s in the final seconds to pull out a 49-48 victory in Emery Gymnasium on Jan. 23, 2022. Trailing 23-18 at halftime, BSU went on an 18-6 run in the third quarter that led to a 36-29 advantage heading into the fourth. In the final period, Bowie State held a 9-5 scoring spread that extended the Bulldogs lead to 11 before SAU was able to cut the lead to single digits in the last seconds.
Howard and sophomore Saniha Jackson (Ellicott City, MD) both finished with 13 points, Myers would record a double double of 10 points and game-high 14 rebounds.
A Look at the Lady Falcons
The Lady Falcons (4-6, 0-2 CIAA) are still in search of its first conference win on the 2022-23 season. SAU dropped a 72-39 decision to Virginia State (Dec. 15) and a 59-46 decision to Elizabeth City State (Dec. 17) before falling to Converse in non-conference action, 71-55 on Dec. 19. Saint Augustine’s averages 62.9 points per game while allowing 62.6 points. The Lady Falcons are seventh in points scored and points allowed in the CIAA. In team field goal percentages, SAU is third (41.7-percent), second in 3-point field goal percentage (35-percent) but is not a good free throwing shooting team, averaging 57-percent which is 12th in the league.
The leading scorer for SAU is Taniyah Greene at 15.8 points per game (5th in the CIAA) and eighth amongst the CIAA in rebounding (6.2) while Lauren Banks averages 12.6 points per game, respectively.
